What Content Should You Display on Your Event Video Wall?
LED screens are perfect for creating an immersive experience at events (experiential marketers, we are talking to you). You may know that you want to incorporate LED into your next event, but may be asking yourself “what should I display onto the wall?”. What good is an LED screen if all it does is display static advertising? Event-goers want to feel entertained, not advertised to. If done correctly, you can do both and have a powerful marketing impact. Some popular types of content that can go onto an LED screen include:
Camera Feed to Screen: Also known as image magnification (IMAG if you really want to sound like a pro), it is perfect for concerts or any live performance with a large crowd. It allows you to give everyone in the audience a front row view of the action. Marketers bonus – add an image overlay of a sponsor. Something like “[Sponsor Name] Fan Cam”
Real-Time Data: Again, if you want to sound like a pro, you can call it RTD. RTD is anything that incorporates a feed from an external data source in real time. Examples of RTD include live scoring, live messaging such as weather updates, RSS feeds, and social to screen feeds. We will discuss some of these in more detail below. RTD is great because it is always changing. Event-goers will always have their eyes on the screen if they know they will be seeing fresh, relevant content.
Social Media to LED Wall: Get your hashtag trending while engaging the crowd. There are a number of 3rd party services that allow you to create a real-time social media slideshow. Simply set the hashtag(s) you want to promote, and anyone who has their profile set to public and uses the hashtag will see their post populate onto the LED wall in real time. Don’t worry, most of these services include a moderation function, so no post will appear onto the screen unless manually approved. Another bonus? Your LED technician can also handle the moderation of posts.
Text Message to Video Wall: This one is a very similar concept to the social to video wall, but instead event-goers will text images/messages to a custom phone number to have it populate onto the screen. Again, it is all moderated. Added bonus? You can have them opt in for retargeting campaigns using their cell phone #. Send them promotions, giveaways, and advertisements well after the event is over!
Scoreboards: LED walls can be used for live scoring during sporting events. There are a number of ways to display this, whether it is entry through a scoreboard display software, an RSS feed, or a 16:9 web browser feed, it is great for keeping fans in on the latest scoring.
Live TV: Play the big game or TV premiere on the big screen. LED systems can integrate live TV feeds seamlessly. We’ll bring the LED screen if you bring the wings!
Movies and Videos: Blu-ray, DVD, web streaming, you name it, it can be displayed onto the big screen. Unlike projection, LED shines bright enough to be seen under direct sunlight, so turn your movie night into a movie day!
Sponsor Ads: Videos and stills. Intermix ads in creative and unique ways to reach a fully engaged crowd and get your sponsors’ message across while making some revenue in the meantime.
Anything and Everything: While these big LED screens can seem complex, in reality the display feed operates exactly like a TV with a simple HDMI input. The sky is the limit with what you can display, and your LED screen provider would be more than happy to explore unique and exciting display opportunities – live drone footage, VR experiences, 3D video, you name it, it can be done!
