When the spring baseball season began on May 13, there was something noticeably different hovering over the center field wall at the Kiwanis Miracle League at Principal Park. Teaming up with Musco Lighting, Insane Impact was able to provide a major upgrade with one of its unique, state-of-the-art massive #LED scoreboards. Combined with a new video system and upgraded streaming capabilities, the KML is now one of the premier special needs ballparks in the country. Opened in 2008, the Kiwanis Miracle League invites children and adults of all abilities to enjoy the sport of baseball.
The three entities held a dedication ceremony in the middle of the day, pausing to recognize Al Knudsen, whom the scoreboard was dedicated to. Knudsen had served on the board for KML and as the public address announcer for over 15 years. Although he passed in January of 2022, it was his vision of an amazing visual for the participants that led to the renovations.
Noted Upgrades:
- 9’ x 12’ Digital Scoreboard.
- 10 MM Pixel Pitch
- 12 LED Cabinets
- 10000 NITS of Brightness
- IP67 Rated Resistance Against Dust and Water
“Baseball is a sport that brings families and communities together,” said Insane Impact President Kyle Ortmann. “Des Moines is our home and it’s important for us to utilize our industry leading technology to provide an impactful visual for special needs youth players. The new upgrades for the participants taking the field will create a major league atmosphere.”
This season’s upgrades complement recent investments in the field’s bleachers and rubberized turf playing surface. The completely flat playing surface helps to prevent injuries, eliminates any barriers to wheelchair-bound or visually impaired players, and smooths entry into wheelchair-accessible dugouts.
“Musco is proud to partner with Kiwanis Miracle League in our shared commitment to advance equitable access to sports and recreation,” said Musco President Jeff Rogers. “These new field upgrades will create lasting memories for countless families here in Iowa.”
